Beds three and four reopened at first light on 7 August. They had been closed since 22 July following a rainfall event that pushed the coliform count above the standard the Nation sets under its own water quality authority.

Water Quality pulled samples twice weekly through the closure. Four consecutive results came back within standard, which is the threshold the management plan requires before a bed reopens.

Beds one, two and five were never closed. Bed six remains closed for the season under the rotation schedule adopted by Council in April.

Licence holders can check current bed status by calling the Fisheries office at 555-0151, which updates its recorded message each morning during the season.
