Council voted 6 to 0, with one member absent, to fund the build out of a second immersion classroom in the north wing of the Ashbend School Campus. The room will be ready for the autumn term beginning 8 September.
Capacity rises from eighteen children to thirty two. Twenty six families are currently on the waiting list, and the Education Department expects the list to clear for the youngest two age groups.
The vote also funds a second full time teaching position and a half time classroom assistant. Both postings are open now on the employment page.
“We have had a waiting list every year since the classroom opened,” Council Member Carol Pelletier said in committee. “A waiting list for a language classroom is a waiting list for the language.”
Families already on the list will be contacted by the school office in order of application date. Families who are not on the list should call the school office at 555-0121.
