Notices

Three different kinds of notice, kept apart because they are read for different reasons and by different people at different speeds.

Emergency alerts

Issued when something is wrong now: a water advisory, a closure, a storm. Alerts carry their own colour and their own place on the homepage, and they are the only content on this site that does.

Utilities, 555-0172

Boil water advisory for the North District is lifted

The advisory issued 2 August after a main break on Ridge Road is lifted. Two consecutive clean samples returned on 5 August.

The boil water advisory issued for the North District on 2 August is lifted as of 4:00 p.m. on 5 August.

Two consecutive sets of samples came back clean. Water from the North District system is safe to drink without boiling.

Households should run cold taps for two minutes before first use, and anyone with a filter should replace the cartridge.

The main break on Ridge Road that caused the advisory has been repaired and the section replaced. Utilities will return in September to replace the two remaining sections of the same run.

Council announcements

Meeting changes, hearings and anything Council is required to publish before it acts. These come from Council, not from the communications office.

Tribal Secretary, 555-0103

Regular Council meeting, 3 September

The September regular meeting moves to the Community Hall to accommodate the budget hearing on the same agenda.

The regular meeting of the Tribal Council will be held on Thursday 3 September at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Hall rather than in Council chambers, because the annual budget hearing is on the same agenda and chambers cannot seat the expected attendance.

The agenda and the draft budget will be posted in the documents library seven days before the meeting, as the ordinance requires.

Citizens who wish to address Council should sign the speaker list at the door before 5:55 p.m. The floor period is thirty minutes and each speaker has three minutes.

The meeting is open. Executive session, if called, will be announced with the citation that authorises it.

Fisheries and Marine Resources, 555-0151

Tribal fishing and shellfish licences renew 1 October

Renewals open 1 September. Licences not renewed by 31 October are closed and must be reapplied for.

Tribal fishing and shellfish licences for the coming year renew on 1 October. The renewal window opens 1 September.

Renew in person at the Natural Resources Building, or by post to the Fisheries office. Renewals require current enrollment verification, which Enrollment can provide the same day.

Licences not renewed by 31 October are closed. A closed licence has to be reapplied for from the beginning, and the licence committee meets only quarterly, so a lapse can cost a season.

Elders aged sixty five and over renew at no charge and do not need to reapply if a year is missed.

Public Works, 555-0171

Shore Road culvert replacement, 24 August to 11 September

One lane alternating traffic between the wharf and the Health Center for three weeks. Medical transport routes are unaffected.

Public Works will replace the failed culvert at the Shore Road crossing between 24 August and 11 September.

Traffic will run one lane, alternating, with flaggers on site from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays. The road stays open at all other times.

Medical transport and the Elder Center bus have been rerouted through Council Way and will not be delayed.

The culvert has failed twice since 2023 and floods the crossing in heavy rain. The replacement is sized for the flows Environmental Protection now projects rather than for the flows recorded when the road was built.
