Upstream discharge permit renewal
Renewal of a discharge permit upstream of the Nation's estuary. The Nation has requested consultation at the government to government level rather than as a commenting party.
This is not a Section 106 matter and it is not a comment period. The Nation requested consultation at the government to government level, and the agency agreed on 2 May.
The permit authorises discharge upstream of the Nation’s estuary. The Nation’s newly adopted water quality standards, passed by Council on 27 July, set the numbers the Nation will hold this permit to.
Where it stands. Two meetings have been held, in May and July. A third is scheduled for October. The Nation’s position is that the renewed permit must meet the Nation’s dissolved oxygen and bacteria standards at the point the discharge enters waters the Nation manages.
